When Thai Comes to Town

I am a lover of food if you haven't noticed already, and indulging over the holiday period was clearly one of my goals (rooting for #NewYearNewMe..) so getting to enjoy good food and the company of my amazing mum I went to try the new thai restaurant Thaikhun in West Quay Watermark.

The whole building is super authentic and has the coolest decoration, there's even umbrellas on the ceiling so it feels like you're walking through a cool street. The street food themed restaurant has been open since 2014 but has only just landed in Southamptons newest dining and entertainment complex, West Quay Watermark. Greeted by staff wearing the coolest outfits, we ordered our cocktails. I decided on the Gin Cooler and my mum went for the Full Moon, so very fruity drinks. For the starter we shared a platter so that we could try a bit of everything, and had the Bangkok Street Platter featuring my favourite Satay Chicken! It was super tasty and the prawn toast was delicious too.

For the main I chose from the grill section and had the Gai Yang grilled chicken, that came with salad and sticky rice. I loved the food and the chicken was really tender but there wasn't enough sauce so if you go for this dish make sure your prepared to ask for more! My mum had Phad Thai as that's one of her favourite dishes and it did not disappoint at all. Maybe i'll try that next time or another noodle dish as that looked yummy!

The desert was the highlight of the meal for me so even if you don't want all of the rest, you have to try the deserts. They taste just as good as they look I swear! The Thai waffles came with green tea ice cream which sounds like a crazy idea but trust me, its delish. My mum got the gluten free chocolate tart, which is great as they can cater to different requirements even in the deserts, and it was really good too as well as all being presented in such a dreamy way.

If you like Thai food this won't disappoint, and while this is definitely not fine dining, the street food restaurant will still have you satisfied for an evening out with great cocktails, food and service to boot. Thanks for a great night Thaikhun!
