Today I explored a brand new restaurant in Bedford Place, serving Mauritian street food. I love to try something different and I had heard that the place had been opened by 2012 Masterchef winner Shelina Permalloo, so I decided to take a friend and check it out in my lunch break.
Finding cool new places to eat is such a nice way to discover the talents of different chefs and this one is no exception. Originally from Southampton, Shelina won master chef in 2012 and hasn't stopped creating since. After two successful cookbooks and lots of TV experience, the decision was made to bring great exotic food to the streets of Southampton. Making sure the foodies were represented outside of London was the big priority and it's been a success from the word go. The vibrant decor and friendly feel welcomes you in, and ordering the mango & lime ice tea added an extra holiday vibe. For starters we had the salt-cod fritters packed full of flavour with a citrus style sauce. I saw my main coming from the kitchen and was already excited! I went for the Magic Bowl with Chicken & Prawn and the name doesn't lie! Topped with egg, the sauce with the rice blended the dish beautifully and it felt filling and healthy, two things that are hard to achieve with one dish. I also tasted my friends order of the Chicken Sunshine Salad, which was equally as delicious. Tender chicken and food packed with flavour was an amazing lunch and I was not disappointed. It was lovely to meet Shelina, and I will be back to try the Octopus, the King Prawn Rougaille and the Chicken Wings as these are her personal favourites on the menu!
