*A Christmas Meal at The Ivy Winchester

As luxury eateries go, The Ivy Winchester has always been one of the most beautiful. The service is second to none, the food and drinks are never to be faulted and it makes for a wonderful evening whether you’re out on a date night, a work meal or a special occasion. This week I was lucky enough to go again, trying their new festive cocktail menu and some of the delicious food.

The Ivy Winchester Brasserie is celebrating Christmas with a beautiful, external installation and limited-edition cocktail menu, created in collaboration with Edrington-Beam Suntory.

The Ivy is well known for their cocktails and they spared no expense when creating the Christmas Drinks menu. The Cognac Mulled wine was warm and soothing, and the others were fruity and refreshing all with a hint of festive spirit.

As well as the drinks, we also got to enjoy a two course meal with some of the finest food. For starters we went for the Tempura Prawns and Squid, and the Scallops (my personal favourite and I have to try them in every restaurant that serves them). I’m definitely a seafood starter kind of person (I can hear the ‘see-food’ puns coming....) and more of a starter than dessert kind of gal.

Not forgetting half of the actual reason I ever come to The Ivy, the salted sourdough bread and if you know, YOU KNOW how incredible it is. I may attempt to make it one day but I’d probably just embarrass myself....

During lockdown I really enjoyed cooking more meals, and thanks to some helpful recipes and veg delivery boxes I actually got quite good again! I do enjoy cooking however there are some things that should be left to the pro’s. One of those things is steak (sorry vegans!).

I have really missed steak the last few months and in an attempt to not ruin it for me forever by cooking it completely wrong, I haven’t had it in a while. I’ve also never had it at an Ivy so that was my meal of choice this time round and I have to say I was extremely impressed.

Cooked to perfection, it was soft and tender and I added some sides of healthy broccoli and not so healthy chips, however it was such a good portion the chips were just a bonus!

There was also the duck curry, and I’m not really ever a curry person to be honest, but this one was flavourful without being too ‘over the top’ and paired with some sticky style rice.

We were waited on hand and foot (socially distanced of course) and it was all round a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable experience, just what I needed after a stressful couple of months!

If you get to eat out before the big day, this should be top of your list of ‘Treat Yo’Self it’s Christmas’ to-do’s. That is if you can snag a table of course!

Thankyou so much to The Ivy for having me, it’s always a pleasure and I look forward to going back soon!
